More Info:
20 track compilation opens with the last tracks made for Mezzrow's own small King Jazz label. In the company of Sidney Bechet and Sammy Price, the clarinetist made some of his very best records, including "Funky Butt." When Mezzrow, Lee Collins and Zutty Singleton arrived in Paris in Oct. 1951, Vogue recorded close to 20 tracks within two weeks. On the first session, Claude Luter's band accompanied the American visitors. Mezzrow's features, "Black & Blue" and "If I Had You," reveal his charming limits whereas he fits in nicely on the other tracks. Both dates from Nov. 1951 present Mezzrow's European touring band. The CD also features Pops Foster, Kaiser Marshall, Mowgli Jospin, Guy Lafitte and others.
